VPN for WhatsApp: test chats and calls separately

Use a trusted contact who agrees to help. Send a short text, then a voice note and, if useful, a small photo. Ask whether each arrives. These checks distinguish basic messaging from media transfer without asking support to inspect your chats.

Check microphone and camera access for WhatsApp in your device settings. Confirm that audio is not being sent to a disconnected headset or another Bluetooth device. If a voice note records correctly but a live call breaks up, note that distinction rather than changing several settings together.

Compare Wi-Fi and mobile data with the same contact. A call depends on both ends of the conversation, so ask whether their connection also changed. A VPN route cannot fix an unavailable microphone or guarantee quality on the other person's network.

For Windows and macOS, use the official installer on the downloads page and connect on that computer. A VPN connection on your phone does not automatically protect a separate laptop, television or other device. Keep only the VPN profile you intend to test connected.
